We are also a great place to volunteer to help your community.  Great books and great people!  Our hours are 9-1 on Wednesday and Saturday.  We have a drop box behind the building for small gifts of books.  Come on Wednesday or Saturday 9-1 and we'll unload larger loads for you and give you a tax receipt.

The Friends Bookstore receives media of all kinds, CDs, DVDs, and records.
We have a wonderful collection of DVDs.  These include some very impressive sets of History Channel Military History DVDs, National Geographic Nature films, television series and others.

Now is the time to come look for some media and books .

Have you ever wondered where your book donations go and what our profits are used for? We are a non-profit organization. We run the bookstore with a crew of dedicated volunteers. The books we receive are processed and shelved in our organized bookstore for purchase. Purchases help fund our literacy projects to many West Texas groups. We also help other groups with books for their literacy projects.

We welcome requests from groups that are needing books for their literacy projects: schools, churches, classrooms, community agencies and social organizations. We do have a special program for teachers who want to buy for their classrooms. Come into the Bookstore on Wednesday or Saturday between 9-1 and speak with Ofelia Pallenez , the manager.

How do we keep all this going?  With wonderful volunteers who so generously donate their time to help process, shelve and organize the many tasks needed to keep the bookstore going. We are in great need of volunteers and there is a job for everyone who can help. There are sit-down jobs for those who need those as well as other more active jobs such as shelving. We are also looking for someone with computer skills to help us with our sales on Amazon. It is very rewarding to know you are helping your community while finding new homes for good books and improving literacy in our area.

Join Us!  If you are unable to commit time to volunteer you can consider joining the FOLL at $5 an individual and $10 a family. This gives you $2 discount a month on your book purchases. Ask about this at the checkout desk.

Volunteers Needed

The Midland Friends of Libraries and Literacy Book Store

at 2305 W. Michigan is in great need of volunteers to help this great

non-profit literacy agency.

We take books donated by the public and make them available in our bookstore for an affordable price. Our proceeds, then, go to literacy projects throughout West Texas, supporting libraries, helping area organizations, programs, schools and students with book donations, and providing book scholarships for MC and UTPB students. With summer vacations and some of our regular volunteers off traveling, we are finding it hard to keep up with the bounty of books we are receiving. Be a part of this worthwhile effort. You can chose to donate as much or as little time as you wish. We are open from 9-1 on Wednesdays and Saturdays. You can help with book processing, shelving and straightening. If you need a less active or a sit-down job, we can use people to mark books and help us with Amazon sales. These jobs are not strenuous and you get to meet great people and see great books. Teachers, consider helping us a couple of hours and get a discount on books for your classroom. This is a great volunteer activity for retired individuals, older teens, college students, teachers off for the summer or if you have a little time you want to give to a worthy cause. Even if you are still working, you can volunteer on Saturday mornings to help keep this worthwhile non-profit going.

To volunteer:

Come to the Bookstore at 2304 W. Michigan on Wednesday or Saturday from 9-12 to speak with us and we will show you around. You can also call 432.682.2999 and leave a message and we will get back with you on Wednesday or Saturday.
